e.l.f. Eyeshadow Review and FOTD using e.l.f.

So I opened up all the packaging and took some pictures, and my sad attempt at swatches (I have no idea how bloggers get good swatch pix!!!!)

Here's the deets about the eyeshadows and my over all opinion.

First off, as I mentioned in my video, my duo shadow came broken. It's a sad reality of shipping, in my opinion. It was the only broken item, so really it's not that bad. Plus I only spent a dollar on it.

Lets start with the Duo Eyeshadow, Mocha Swirl

e.l.f. says:
2 Beautiful powder eyeshadows in 1 convenient component.
Each gorgeous color can be worn alone or together for a dramatic effect.
Safe, Gentle Formula

There's 4g of product

Decent pigmentation, a slight shimmer, creamy but they are a little powdery. Easy fix to that, just tap off the extra before you put it on your eye and use a sticky base (I like MAC Cream Colour Base or NYX Jumbo Pencils).

Definitely worth the dollar.

Next are the two single shadows, and I'll include the blush because I took the pictures together.

Wild Wheat

Charcoal

Gotta Glow - Blush

Each eyeshadow, even though they came in different packaging, are the same size and weight, 2.75g, and both include a small mirror.

Wild Wheat isn't as pigmented as I'd like, but is a nice neutral colour. Not like a colour I already have, which is always a good thing.

Charcoal is a smokey grey colour, it has a slightly better colour pay off than Wild Wheat. Very buildable, sadly the sparkles seen in the pan do not transfer to the skin.

Gotta Glow catches the light beautifully, it's a white gold. I can see myself using this on my eyes more so than my cheeks. It's very powdery, so a light touch and a fluffy brush are best. It contains 4.75g of product.

I used Mocha Swirl, both sides, and Charcoal today. I also used the waterproof eyeliner pen, but that's another post. I used the light side of Mocha Swirl all over, and the dark side in the crease. I use Charcoal to add depth in the outter crease and against the lash line.

Over all, I got what I expected. Would I buy from e.l.f. again? Probably not. Nothing personal e.l.f.

All opinions presented in this post are mine alone. All products mentioned have been purchased with my own money. I have no affiliation with any companies mentioned in this post.

  1. Great post, Erika.

I have been teetering back and forth between buying from ELF or not. I really don't like the phrase "you get what you pay for" but it seems painfully true when it comes to the site. After seeing the pigmentation on the swatches and how powdery their formula looks, I think I'd rather spend a little more on an eyeshadow that works, rather than having tons of eyeshadows that are only mediocre.

I will admit that I have been curious about their brush quality. Any insight on that?

  2. Sarah - I'm also curious about the quality of the brushes, but I totally concur with the idea of paying a little more for some amazing quality. You can get really good product for not a lot of money these days. You just have to look hard enough.

  3. They sell elf at Target here. I've had good luck with their studio brushes.. super soft, nice application, no bristles falling out.
Their regular line of brushes are crap though.
