Make Up Tag

This is a tag that went around on YouTube for a while. I thought it'd be fun. :)

1. How old were you when you started wearing makeup?
I remember distinctly wearing makeup in the 7th grade, so that would make me 13? 12? about 12 or 13. Really young. All I wore was powder and mascara. As I got older into high school I still kept it really light, soft pink eyeshadow, a small amount of concealer, powder, mascara, lip gloss.

2. How did you get into makeup?
I remember my Mom taking her make up off when I was really small. She'd take a cotton ball and use oily makeup remover and it would make black circles around her eyes. We thought she was a panda or something.
I remember having a birthday party where we had makeovers. I remember old school Avon, in the pink packages, or was that Mary Kay?
I remember asking my Mom how I was supposed to use 3 colours in the Cover Girl trio I got at the drugstore, and she taught me how to use the dark colour in the crease to add definition, the lightest colour on the inner corner to open up my eyes, and the middle shade all over. Thanks Mom. Love you!

3. What are some of your favorite brands?
I use all sorts of brands, I don't really know if I could say I have favorites. I like the standard popular ones, MAC, Make Up Forever, NARS. I would have to say though Rimmel has to be up there too, I always go for it when I hit up the drug store.

4. If you could only wear 4 products on your face what would they be?

Eye cream, Brow Powder, Mascara, Lip Balm. That's all I usually wear on weekends anyway.

5. What does makeup mean to you?
Make up is an art form. A tool. A tool to create beauty, create age, create definition, enhance features, fix imperfections. It makes me feel good. I have fun. That's what it's all about to me.

6. What is your favorite thing about makeup?
It's versatility. You can create a sexy smokey eye, or turn a 23 year old girl into a 50 year old man.

7. What do you think about drugstore makeup vs high end makeup?

You get what you pay for, I believe that. Now does that mean everyone should go out and buy the $80 foundation? No. Will the $15 foundation work for you, very likely. Will your results be as good, probably not. Does that matter though? Does a Bentley drive you to work any faster than a Civic? Not if you're going the speed limit. Use what you have wisely and you'll get the best results, no matter how much it cost.

8. What is one tip of advice you can give to a beginner?

Do your research! If you truly love make up, learn the fundamentals. Get a colour wheel, learn face shapes, understand contouring and highlighting!

9. What is one makeup trend you never understood?

The 20s  Eyebrows... WHY! Half moons? You look so sad flapper girl :(

10. What do you think about the beauty community on YouTube?
I love it. I'm obviously not a heavy hitter, and there's 100s maybe 1000s of us 200 subscriber gurus out there. There's so much raw talent, so many trade secrets being shared. It makes me wonder how people did it in the 80s, maybe that explains all the Bowie inspired blush, there was no place to share the tips and tricks! I brows all the time, watching big names, small town drag queens, and 13 year old girls talking about their latest Sephora haul.
