Homemade Exfoliants

We fork out the dough for all sorts of beauty products, but did you know that you most likely already have everything you need to make an exfoliant/scrub?! Its really easy! You just need a few basic ingredients.

Exfoliating the skin is a great way to promote the regeneration of healthy new skin cells, making your skin softer and more open to creams, moisturizers and serums.

Sugar Body Exfoliant
1/4 C Olive Oil
1/2 C Course Brown Sugar
1/4 C Used Coffee Grinds

Mix everything together, and apply to the skin, then rinse. It's best to use this scrub in the bath or shower, since it can get kind of messy.
The olive oil will help hydrate and condition the skin. The brown sugar is the mechanical exfoliant, meaning the course bits of sugar will remove any dead skin cells. The caffeine in the coffee grinds help simulate the skin and helps to break down any cellulite.

Lip Exfoliant
1/4 tsp Olive Oil
1/4 tsp Honey
1/4 tsp Course Brown Sugar

Mix everything together and apply to your lips, then rinse or wipe away. For a little extra scrubbing power, apply the mixture with an old toothbrush.

Salt Body Exfoliant
1/2 C Course Salt, Pickling Salt, or Rock Salt
1/4 C Olive Oil
1/8 C Honey
1/2 An Avocado, mashed.

Mix everything together and apply to the skin, then rinse. Another messy one, best done in a tub.
Because the salt is a more course exfoliant, using avocado and honey will help sooth the skin.

Feel free to work with the portions until you get what feels right for you. Adding your own essential oils to the mix can help make it your own.
Remember that these items are perishable and should be used right away. They can be kept in an air tight container for a short period of time, but if you see any change in texture or smell, ditch it!
